i saw this jeep sitting in the back of a friends yard and i offered her 400 bucks for it. runs and drives but the steering box is stripped out and there are absoloutly no brakes. plans include restoring restoring original brake set up. converting to xj power steering and a leaf over lift.
    here is how it sits.

I wouldn't spend the money to restore the original 9" brakes if you are making other modifications anyway. Spend that money on upgrading the brakes to make it actually stop when you step on the pedal. 11" drums, discs, whatever. Typically if the brakes are shot you'll spend the same or more on the 9" brakes than upgrading.

Looks like a neat old girl. It has some character for sure. Have fun with it. I agree with the comments for the others here. Chuck those 9" brakes far far away. At least go to 11" drums all around or disk front 11" drum rear. Brakes and steering are very important. The saginaw steering you have in mind already is another good move. Get you brakes and steering done as well as whatever other safety and reliability items done then drive it and have fun. You can always do a more detailed buildup later when you know which way you might want to go with it.

well actually all the shoes and drums r fine its just the brake lines are all pinched or missing the master cylenders gone... its a nightmare under there to say the least. r their any brake set ups off of other newer vehicles that bolt up?

yea steering and braking r def. priorities. it is definatly a blast to drive though. i can steer it a little bit but once you turn a certain point the steering wheel just spins and nothing happens. ive been driving it around in the fields and fourwheeler trails and stuff. it does stuff just like it is that my xj wouldnt dream of doing lol.

Just take the pedals, booster and master cylinder out of the XJ parts rig next to the CJ-5 in your picture. They bolt right up.

Seriously, If you use all XJ parts on your CJ, you only have to have one spare for both rigs!

Looks like a fun project ! I used a XJ ps pump from a 4.0L rig.. it works well. But made my own bracketery and converted to remote reservoir to make room for a york air compressor. Also the pumps are so cheap to buy at the parts store.. I'd go with a rebuilt one instead of a JY one. Are you staying with the stock axles for spring over lift ?

looks like plans changed a bit.
motors got a god awful knock and smokes like mosquito patrol.
found a deal on a built mopar 360 auto trans and tcase attached out of a mud drag truck.
il be getting to work pretty soon on that swap.
does any one make an adapter to bolt the 360 to my stock transmision?
id love to keep the three speed but cant find an adapter anywheres

I wouldn't think a T90 tranny would hold up all that well behind a 360. Why not use the auto?

You might want to look into Novak-adapt. They are a really good site and if there is a way to adapt the mopar 360 to an amc tranny, they will know. You would think it would almost bolt right up, but i aint sure. Google is your friend on things like this ha.

lol yea ive looked around on novak and advanced adapters and neither one offers hardly anything for a mopar 360.
is an amc and a mopar 360 the same block r bolt pattern?
