Working on my 53 m38a1, and want to have self adjusting 11" rear brakes. This is what I currently have.

They are 11" with holes for e-brake? No internal hardware though. (Note left is on the right, right on left).

I thought it should be 9"?

Here is what I am wanting to install, self adjusting, but no e-brake.

I took the brakes off a ford axle of unknown year. Any clue what year? It is a high pinion 44.
Can I add an e-brake to it?

Both have 6 bolts holding them on. You have the hub off unbolt the old ones and see if the new ones will work. I don't see why they wouldn't

Fords are one source for 11"x2" Bendix brakes. The bottom brake you pictured is Bendix. That's a front, since there is no parking brake lever and no place for the p-brake cable. You cannot add a p-brake to those backing plates without some fab and welding - not worth the trouble. The rears will have a place for the parking brake cable to go through the backing plate - it's obvious if you have a rear in front of you.

Also, if the brakes you have now are 11"x2" and have no self-adjusters, they are likely from a Jeep Utility Truck or Utility Wagon. Replacing them with Ford brakes won't give you any better stopping power, but the Ford (Bendix) brakes will have self-adjusters, and you won't have to manually adjust the brakes every 3000-5000 miles or so.

Thanks guy's, any clue what to tell the parts man when I get parts for my bedix brakes? Also what to get rear backing plates off of, yes I want to have an e-brake, and the PO left me with only the e-brake drum (no handle, no cable, no guts to the brake) on the transfer case.

    thanks del

Hermtheoverdriveguy could supply you with the parts to fix your existing E-brake. He's in Brush Prairie, WA near Vancouver.
Later Wagoneers or Jeep Pu's with 5 lug wheels and 11" brakes and rear drum parking brakes, '72-'75 CJ's, some DJ's to start the list
