on my 55 cj5, i think the front driveshaft's slip yoke goes to the transmission, my dad says it goes to the front axle. but it just does not make sense to me as to why it'd go to the front axle. so...does the yoke go to the axle or transmission??? thanks in advance.

    Re: quick question.

The consensus is they've been installed both ways from the factory. I've seen factory vehicles with them both ways. Personally I prefer the slip yoke to be installed close to the transfer case to help keep dirt/debris out of the splines so they last longer and are less susceptible to damage.

Mounted on transfercase side like nickmil suggests will allow water to drain out as well. The grease will also tend to migrate downhill to lubricate the splines where they need it most, at the edge of the slip yoke.

I mount mine like nickmil suggested as well like he says keeps more of the dirt and junk away from the splines.

I agree with Nick, mine was actually installed that way when I bought the Jeep 18 years ago.
:shock:Gooood that sounds bad, Emily was probably 2-3 when I bought that thing. Heck my son was only 2 and my daughter wasn't even born yet. Now I feel old!!
