fish plate is a welding term discribing a plate made to the shape of the surface it is being attached to . A fish plate is a flat gusset . it is there for to strengthen the origional material, not to replace it. I think I now understand your plan. If you cut out the existing frame to replace it I recommend leaving the top, or one dide until you have the replacement material in place as it holds everything true. If you cut it out and replace it entirely remember to allow at least a 64 inch extra to compensate for the shrinkage of welding. Another approach to replacing the section would be to make a jig using the sections of the frame not being replaced before removing the damaged material. The imporntant part is to replace it with stronger material, then fish plate over the welds to strengthen the weld areas. Good luck

I love the fish plate. I sent this to my dad, he is a welder too. I also copied it off and have it at work. Gets alot of laughs. Thanks for sharing your sense of humor
