Looking to see what you all are running for rpm/mph

What I am concerned about is a 74 Ren 304

Seems like 5K rpm for 55 mph on the glass

Tell me what you all are at.

    Thanks!

    I recall my '73 CJ-5 with a 304 and 4.27s was around 4000 RPM at about 80 mph.

    '74 with 304 and 3.73s @ 60mph w/ 33 inch tires runs at 3500 RPMs.

Hmm. Something has to be wrong here.

If I calculate the speed with 33s and 3.73 axles, at 3500 rpm, that's 92 mph. Either the tire height is wrong, or your tachometer is wrong.

To the OP, if you have 4.27 axles and 30" diameter tires, then you're spinning at about 2600 rpm at 55 mph. It may sound like 5000 rpm, but it's much less than that - unless you are in low range.

I run 4.88's and 33's, and I'm turning about 3200 at 60mph. My speedometer is pretty accurate.

You're right, that was a typo. Should have been 2500.

that was my though also. I will check again tonight. Last night I tinkered with it for about 5 min checking, could not find out for sure. (I had a meeting I needed to go to) Is it possible on a d20 to get a 2L by mistake? I will have to look into it further, my thought was in 2wd it is a straight through to the rear. I think I already know the answer, but could you put the gears in backwards order and get the 2l full time. Thinking I may have put the gears in, reverse order and intermediate shaft in backwards.

As far as I know yes, you can get 2L on the Dana20.
    Mine does anyway.

You are correct! it was in 2L but my shifter also has a major amount of SLOP!
went out last night and jammed it back in forth enough till I found 2H. I think it is time for the twin stick. unless someone knows of a rebuild kit. The biggest problem i have is the Pivot shaft I have is lose and will not weld, harden and pipe don't weld well (or at least I can get it to stick hard enough)

so now its 2600 at 55mph

The Dana20 tend to do that when the linkages gets sloppy.(or so read)
In my opinion the twin stick conversion is a great mod to do, and on my wishlist when the Jeep is running someday.

Glad you got it in high gear again!
