What is this for

    I was wondering if anyone knows what this piece s, it is the leaf spring looking piece of metal with two holes in it coming up from the frame.

    I believe they are for reinforcement for the transmission crossmember. There should be one on each side and they are a bear to get off if they need replaced.

    hmmmmm....don't remember that on my cj6......wonder if it doesn't have it because the frame is strapped on a 6?

    It looks like the spot weld(s) have let go on the end of it.

    They actually do quite a bit. It keeps the bolts from pulling through the frame or cracking around the bolt holes when the frame flexes.

    Agree with Nickmil. They act like a big washer and spread the pressure over a larger area to prevent cracking. Here is a pic of the one on my 71

    I crawled under the 6 today...the whole frame is strapped on top of the lower leg of the frame. I learned something new here again :)
