Today after coming back for a ride I was pulling in the driveway and I hear a clunking sound only when turning. Does not matter if I turn left or right but there is def and rotation style clunking noise. Bearings?? this is in 2wd btw

just got the drive flange then i take it, probably axel joints then, if you have the rezepa or bendix style the only fix as far as i know is to replace them with a spicer type with servicable u joints

The Jalopy used to do that. I pulled apart the axle and found that one of the Bendix joints came apart.

Spring end bushings (silent block bushings) will clunk when they are worn out and you turn the wheel lock to lock.

This is doing it while moving forward or reverse and "clunks" at the same speed as the tire rotation

easy enough to tell if its the axel joints, remove the drive flanges and see if it goes away, a set of locking hubs may still get you many miles out of your axels if they are the culprit. IIRC they offered oversize balls for the bendix axel back in the day to relieve this issue. FWIW a set of axels out of a newer D27 will slide right in and have the u joint that can be replaced;)

You need to get it down to where #13 can come off:http://www.film.queensu.ca/Cj3b/Photos/Parts/FrontWheelParts.jpg If you can take the backing plate off with out disconnecting brake lines it goes quicker. Harder if you still have the "S" lines on the wheel cylinders, may have to disconnect there. I have a set of spare spicer front axles if you find out you need some.

I think its the springs. My jeep clunks when I turn either way. Its the leaves in the springs shifting. I don't pay much attention to it as I don't think it will cause a problem...leaf springs are pretty tough. Have someone move the wheel back and forth while your staring at the springs. It could also be the bushings, which I think would be more likley to clunk only when you take a corner fast. At least thats my experience.
