NOW I see where I may need to grind:

Got to wait until my hubs come in **PLEASE BE THE RIGHT ONES** then I can mount the rotors and figure out just how much I need to grind...

At least I have a visual.

I hear what you're saying about the wheel notch. But if you are careful you could probably touch-up the liner afterward. With the seat all the way back you really can't even see the notch. I spot welded mine in so it didn't really do any heat damage to the liner material. I made all the bends with a vise and a mallet. It moved my seat back a little over 2", but you could make it as big as you want. It does intrude into the wheel well though.

There are a couple more pics of the notch here: http://rides.webshots.com/album/576218102KQZQVB?start=12 In the pics the notch looks out of square, but it's just the angle they were shot from.

Here is a link to a picture of some clean and simple stanchions. These would be easy to make and don't have any sharp edges or weird speaker cut outs. The stanchions are backed up with tubing that has plates welded on either end and runs between the dash and firewall.

This is a great way to go even if you do the wheel notch. Floor mounted cages are always in the way no matter how much leg room you have.

It's a lot to think about. The notch is pretty much a must I am thinking but I want to get this thing back together first. This front axle is really taking it out of me right now as the brakes are turning out not to be as "bolt on" as I had hoped. My new hubs arrive tomorrow and I REALLY hope the back plate is flat so I can properly mount the rotors.

Trying not to lose steam on this thing.

I'll just keep my head down and keep wrenching. If I can get this D30 finished off I will be a lot happier! Can't wait to get home and see if my hubs are the right ones! GO CLOCK GO

    Well, I got home and...

    IT'S THE RIGHT HUBS! (AFAIK)

They look like I should be able to slap them back in. I have to go re-read some info from Posi to make sure I build em back up right but now I am PUMPED. Also, I ordered the hubs without studs and cups, but they came with studs and cups... I guess thats pretty cool, although Im not sure if the studs are long enough.

Stoked about the hubs looking right... could you tell I was worried?
Now I suppose I have to paint these things. What do you guys use? Rotor paint?

Hubs only! Rotors won't rust as long as you use the brakes:D

OH, man I read that post by Mike S wrong. For some reason I thought he was saying dont paint the Hubs... Too many beers.

Just to clear this up, I am not painting the rotors, I was just going to paint the Hub.

So my somewhat more sober question is:

Do I use caliper paint to paint the Hubs?

There that one made sense right? ha ha ha

Sounds logical. I don't think it makes too much difference, use what you have.

I've never seen caliper paint. I used high temp engine paint. Downside is it takes a long time to dry.

You can use a high-temp paint. Good up to around 1200 degrees. Speed shops and some paint stores carry them.

Nope, still just staring at it. caliper mounts are on, calipers and pads are sitting here waiting to go. Im just waiting on timpkin part #LM501311 that Posimoto said I need to use for the inner bearing. Checked every shop in town and no one had them so I had to order them from Rockauto.com in the mean time I took my hubs/calipers and wheel studs down to the local Big-O Tires to have them "press" the studs in. Then I watched through the shop window as they essentially used a BFH to "press" them in.

Also went and picked up some steel to fab up some seat brackets and a couple bumpers:

Also have a question going over here:
    http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=79938
to see about getting my locking hubs back together...

I knew this would be slow as I am trying to be careful to get all the right parts the first time through.

Ya I need to head down and get me some tubing for a rear bumper as well. Not going to use the tube bumper that was on it before.

I used tractor / farm implement paint on calipers, and it worked well.
