1967 jeepster vin number question

i just bought my first jeepster. the guy i bought it from says it's a 67 but the title says its a 73. i noticed the vin numbers posted here are not even close to the vin on mine. mine is J3F835TA18996. anyone have any idea what year my jeepster is? thanks for your help.

 

According to the VIN it's a CJ-5 .
J- Jeep
3-1973
F-Toledo, 3 Speed Trans
83-CJ-5
5-Open Body
T-CJ-5 3750 GVW
A-258 Regular Compression
The remaining are the sequential serial number.

Is the VIN you have off the title or the VIN plate which is/should be attached to the firewall near the brake master cylinder?
If all else fails, on the top side of the frame, passenger side usually just back of the shock mount the 5 digit sequential of the VIN will be stamped onto the frame. You'll need to clean/wire brush the frame to find it.

 

thanks for the info...i got the vin number off the plate on the firewall. the way the plate is bolted on looks like it might have been added at a later date and not be the original one. i will check the number on the frame tomorrow. thanks again...what a great site...i've got tons of questions.

 

ok...i cleaned the frame and got the number....29594. does not match the number on my vin plate. also there is a plate on the firewall mounted behind and above the battery which says that this vehicle meets all safety standards set forth by the safety act of 1966. (or words to that effect). any other way to find out what year it is? it has a v6 by the way. there is not any sticker on the drivers door pillar. thanks.

 

Check with $ sink in the post at the top of the page, he should be able to tell you the year and maybe even DOM. Unfortunately the door sticker with the VIN and the Date of Manufacture wasn't required until later, sure would have made things a little easier.
