F134 smoke question

I started my rebuilt engine after it sat for 7 years. Fired right off, runs great. After running up to temperature, I get a couple of puffs of white smoke (steam?) on acceleration. Any ideas? I am planning to re-torque the head bolts and change out the startup oil and filter before running it again with Amsoil 20/50.

    Probably steam,
Yep retorque the head bolts and check again. Hopefully that will fix the problem.

If that doesn't fix the problem... then you have a problem!

Cracked Block or damaged/ bad head gasket.

Drain the oil and look for antifreeze/ water in the oil. Oil will be cloudy or visible antifreeze.

Use thread sealer on the head bolts if you have to take them out and put them in again. (I don't remember for sure if any of them go into the water jacket, but some of the manifold bolts do.) If your exhaust manifold bolts leak antifreeze and the gaskets arent good and snug, you might get a little in the exhaust system that way as well although less likely I thinK.

You could (although frowned upon by the true mechanics on this board) add some Barrs antifreeze stop leak to the radiator and run it a bit. It might stop the leak and you may not ever have any problem, but then again you might at some point (usually a long ways from home).

barrs stop leak some bad stuff, it will stop the leak, but it will also stop everything else up. dont know if you can get it in a smaller container but there is a stop leak made by the barbee (think thats how you spell it )company, its pretty good stuff, and wont stop everything up

Update, re-torqued head bolts to 70ft lbs, ran up to temperature, problem gone. There must have been some condensation in the engine also, I found water droplets inside the valve cover.

In 500 miles you may want to do that retorque again, and maybe 500 after that. One of the better mechanics (Blevisay? ) can tell you.
