Update - I swapped out the D20 and put in a d300, mostly because the 20 hung down way too low, and i had a fresh 300 sitting in the garage.

Here is the old POS cross member ( i did not build it :) )

here is the one i built for the 300, a flat skid will go all the way up to the oil pan some day.

This swap also helped my rear DS angles, because of the way the 20 was clocked, the rear of the drive train was raised to make it all fit.

I have the 300 clocked flat, and was able to lower the rear of the drive line about 1.5" worked out sweet.

I still can't fit the front DS, so i will be running a 2 pc front.

Its off to the exhaust shop tomorrow to have the exhaust redone.

Also picked up some 33" tires for it.

Its back drivable again. After swapping a d300 in for the d20, putting a torque converter with a normal stall speed, rebuilding the quadrajet and a new exhaust system.

The old exhaust was something i hacked together to get in on the road, and it worked fine, but it would not fit with the D300, and the way i crossed over above the front axle did not leave much room for up travel.

    my handy work

Decided if i wanted to get this thing back on the road anytime soon, that i was best if i farmed out the exhaust.

Brought it to R&D Custom exhaust in town. They did a full custom true dual system, it came out the nuts.

Did you get rid of the crossover pipe at the engine?

Yes, without 3-4 inches of lift, the pumpkin was too close, and there was no where real good spot to crossover further back. It could have been squeezed above the tcase, but it was tight. True duals from manifold out the back worked out perfect.

Looks nice and clean. What mufflers are you running? Im running purdy much the same exact exhaust except mufflerless and they stop right above the rear axle. Kind of annoying after a lot of driving.

He kept calling them "trans am turbos" I believe they are a small turbo muffler that fits the older trans am's They are about 11" in length

Would you mind sharing the specs on that cross member you built? The more I look at it the more I want it!

Its 1.5" box tube, 3/16 thick. Exact measurements would probably be different because specific locations, so i don't think they would help you.

Got started on the 2 pc front driveshaft.

Found a carrier bearing that fits the shaft perfectly.

one of mods i have been chomping at the bit to do is moving the tank from under the seat to under the bed, i have had the tank and skid i thought i needed for a while and was just waiting for time to install them. Finally i getting ready to do the swap, that was until i actually got under the jeep with this tank
    [IMG]

even with removing the hitch support, there was no way it was going to fit, unless the moved the cross member forward, with the tub on, that would be a very hard, and would probably be an issue with the diff hitting the skid. That tank is about 16-1\4" and then another 3\4" for the flange on each side, it was not going to fit like i hoped, so i set out to find another tank.

This is a 1978 postal jeep tank, it is exactly 15-3\4 deep with no flange to deal with. It fit the skid i bought very well after some work to it.
To make this fit where i wanted, i had to remove the rear cross member, it was a little tweaked anyways. It will be replaced with some angle steel and heavy duty bumper i built for an old YJ project i never used.

the bumper needs some cleaning paint, but it will be perfect.

Just a bit of advice - mine looked like it would clear the pumkin too. Then while wheeling under more flex it creased the tank behind the skid, just enough to let gas run out in a fine stream. The pumkin can change the swing on the springs if you change shackles and springs.

I should be good, it clears by a good 3", i also could move the tank up and back another inch each way if i really had to.

I was going to put the filler in the rear quarter, but ended up in the back, it just looked better, and is hidden by the rear carrier.

Figured while I was in the zone, I would knock another item off the list, the fenderwell notch to get the seats back and down a bit. I can't believe how much more comfortable it is behind the seat now.
