I have a 67 cj w/ 231 does anyone know if the early manufactor cj's had 66 style brakes. Everthing i read says 67's have a split master cylinder. Mine doesn't. Also the wheel cylinders look to be the earlier style.

'67 was the year the mandate was passed but was not mandatory until '68. That's why some vehicles switched in '67 and some in '68. The '67 Tux V-6 I just parted had a single reservoir master cylinder.

A lot of '67 vehicles had the dual MC, some still had a single. Dad had a '67 Impala with a dual, my uncles '67 Biscayne still had a single. My understanding was that '68 standards required the dual MC, along with side marker lights, seatbelts and closed crankcase systems among others.

I've got an early 67 and a late 67. The early has a single MC and the late has a dual.

My 67 has a single. It's memorable because it's low in the engine compartment and you have to access it through the cutout in the driver's side floorboard. The cap on mine is stuck and I can't get it to move with the limited room down there.

I have a 67 with single MC and 10" or should I say it did. Putting on 4 wheel dics and Fedex today dropped off the Herm's dual MC kit.

Try a socket and a universal on a 2 foot extention and access it from under the hood.

I found a marinade syringe with a hose on the end is cleaner and works quite well also.

thats a GREAT idea - i never thought of that one - thanks! Not only for filling your MC, but probably good for lots of things - like filling my ross box (and not dumping gear oil all over LOL)

My 67 has dual master cylinder but 9" brakes. Also the wheel cylinders on it look like the ones used up to 1953?

Be careful with un-stucking that cap. It may be cast metal, and replacements are hard to find.
