Looking at buying a 1957 jeep willys round fender. I think it would be a cj5. It has a 350 small block chevy, 4 speed stick, 3-4 inch lift, shaved tailgate, nice stainless instrument panel with all the gauges, good condition top, winch, heater, gt steering wheel, dual exhaust, but stock axles. Mechanic friend looked at it and said the front is a spicer 44 and he wasn't sure of the rear. The transfer case is stock also. Body is okay needs work. Asking $2800 paid $3800 3 years ago. Not going to turn it into a rock crawler, just to drive around town and minor 4x4ing. A little worried about the axles. Good buy or what do you experts think? Really have always wanted something to build and work on. Seller is a friend and didn't do anything to it and knows nothing, get rid of because he need to buy a ring.

I have a 56 round fender willys but with the F-134. The 350 4 spd will be too much to handle for me. I would say the power of the 350 and the length of the 57 is a combination that could be hazardous to your health at fast speeds. As for the price, pictures say a thousand words and always helpfull. If the body is good but needs work and the mechanicals are working as a friend perhaps you can squeek him down some since the body needs work.

Yeah some pics would help us ID the axles.. As far as them holding up, it's all ni how you drive it.. From the sounds of it you'll be fine if you are just streeting it and some minor wheeling.

BTW, stock would be a Dana 44 rear and a D-27 front.. If it's gota 44 in front then you shouldn't hurt it any, that's pretty heavy duty stuff for that little jeep.

That front axle was a Dana 25 from the factory.

Even if the rear is still the stock 44, it will work just fine if you full float it. If the conversion was well done, you couldn't duplicate it for the money. As to driveability-shouldn't be a problem, especially if it has the saggy box already installed. Just don't put an auto locker in the rear.
