I am about to get my CJs frame sandblasted then have a coworker come and box the frame. I have POR-15 ready to go on.
How do you get the POR-15 on the inside of the frame when boxed? Should I go ahead, POR-15 it before boxing, and hope that not too much of it burns away while welding?
    Thanks

After it's boxed, leave the ends open. Run a piece of wire through the boxed rail, one end to the other. Attach a rag to one end. Attach another long length of wire to the rag.

Soak the rag in the paint you want to use, stuff it into one end, pull it through the boxed frame using the attached wire, to the other end.
Soak the rag again, pull it back through. Repeat multiple times until you have the best coverage.

Simple but effective. This is how I cleaned, then painted the inside of the tubes on a D30 before I rebuilt it.

they also make a weldable primer that you could put on first before you box it in, then do what lynn sugested

Another possibility is to put your paint in a pump sprayer and spray the inside of the box with the wand. You'll need to leave access holes, but holes in the middle of the web (not in the rails) won't affect the strength of the frame.

This spraying into cavities is done all the time with products like Waxoyl. You could also spray in something like chainsaw bar oil, which is said to be a very effective anti-rust treatment.

you can also get a paint gun with a hose and wand attachment. i got an inexpensive one from jcwhitney several years ago but haven't tried it yet. Not sure if JCWhitney still sells them but i'm sure you can get them anywhere. POR-15 recommends buying their solvent if spraying.

but it seems like lynn's method will work just as well and no hassle with sprays, solvents, etc

I'm planning on boxing my frame and having it sandblasted. I'm thinking about just boxing it in, then leave the ends in the rear open and plugging all the holes. Then I was going to just put about a quart of paint in each frame rail and tilt the frame around until the paint coated the inside. Anyone ever try that?

Yeah, don't coat it first. When that stuff starts burning, if it's too close to the welding, it'll contaminate the weld, resulting in poor welds..

Thanks for everyone's reply. I won't coat it before welding. I'll just try to figure out the best way to do it using your suggestions.

That will work well as long as any holes are plugged, duct-taped, or otherwise temporarily closed to contain the paint without mondo leakage :D

Even with the rag and wire method, as the drenched rag passes holes, paint will run down the outside of the holes. Probably best to tape over them for the rag and wire, and spray methods too.
