Help. I installed a Pertronix ignition, bought new wires, cap, rotor ,plugs. Test light gives me good voltage at the coil and battery.
While trying to hook everything back up one of clamps that hold the dizzy cap onto the dizzy snapped:cry: I can not find anybody that sells them. I tried to rig it up just to see if it would turn over ( I have not heard this engine run) and all I get is the occassional loud pop, almost like a backfire.
So I am looking for suggestions or info on where to get these clamps, or what to do next. ANY INFORMATION OR ADVISE WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

hate to be the bad news guy but it sounds like you are SOL, unless you can find another dist. what broke, the springy hold down, or the piece it is attached to the dist body with? as far as back fire you sure you aren 180° out on the cap? maybe put the cap on backwards and that is the reason the clamp broke?????

The part that actually holds the cap onto the body of the distributor. There are 2, one on each side, they hook into a metal bracket that is held against the dizzy body by screws, Then they snap into small grooves in the dizzy cap to hold it closed.

about the best bet is scrounge around the junk yard. prestolite or autolite dist?? the prestolite was used in wisconsin engines. (same cap, rotor, points cond, etc) might be a long shot but you may be able to get it thru them. my wisconsin is a vh4d. let me know if you can get it thru them if you need any dist #'s or anything

Only the very late model 8N's had that dist but many other tractors (including Fords) used the same sort of hold down
