I am thinking about buying a 1989 258 from a friend. I was wondering if the transmission form my 1974 cj5 with a t 14 and 232 bolts right to the 258. Is everything the same as in clutch stuff and bellhousing? Thanks for any info.

Should drop right in. Not sure about the pilot bearing - I expect it's the same, but I'd have to look it up. The '89 engine is a newer generation from the '74 engines, and will have some different external things - manifolds, carburetor, valve cover. Your bellhousing and clutch parts will bolt up fine to the newer engine though.

All of the accessory mounts are different. Hopefully the new engine comes with those.

Thanks for the info. I guess I will ask if the accessory stuff comes with it.
