I wanna replace the tie rod ends on my 72 CJ5, but I don't want to disassemble until I have the replacement parts as I'll have to do it at my work facility so I can properly align the beast. My question is are the tie rod ends right or left hand thread stock? I know the option for both is there, but what is stock on a 72 CJ5? I'm also interested in replacing the pitman arm to connecting rod end as well. Let me know if there's any way of telling aside from pulling the old ones off.

One is left handed and the other is right handed. So when you turn the ajuster / tierod tube it either lengthens or shortens.

You dont need a machine to align these.... Just a tape measure.

Jack up the front of the jeep.
Stick two pins in the both front tires pointing strait forward.
Now mesure the distance between the pins.
Now spin both tires 180* so both pins are pointing back.
    Me sure the distance again.
Now adjust the tire rod till the distance between the pins are 1/4in closer in the front than the back.
Then adjust the drag link till the steering wheel is strait, this is trial and error here. Take your tools with you when you go for a spin.

I figured it out, not long after I made the post. What was throwing me off is that the right hand threaded tie rod ends were being sold in a pair, and the left hand was being sold singular. Being a more modern technician I'm only accustomed to tie rod ends being one left hand and one right hand. For the life of me I couldn't figure out why t hey would sell two right hands as a pair. Then...ding...the light bulb goes off. Pitman arm to steering rod...man sometimes I even impress myself 8)
