    So you all tell me.

Sense there is a lot of questions on rewire jobs and which kit to buy and why. Should some of us do write ups on the kits we used and installation of the kits?

I am at the point now that I can do a write up on the EZ kit and the pros and cons of the kit. But when people ask about the Painfull kits I have no Experience with them. Some of you that have used those kits could also do write ups and post so people have a better understanding of the other kits. I would like to see also someone do the Great leap and build there kit from scratch with only wires and a block. (with full pics and details of course) Now that would be cool!

So You all tell me, is it worth the space and time?

To make this work I think we would need to do it right. No details too small and nothing left out.

Love to see it. Thinking about the EZ Wire myself.

One of the problems with detailed write-ups is that there are no two Jeeps that are the same. There are so many variations of column swaps and ignition systems, alternators and starter solenoids just to start. I build Jeeps using all GM components, so the column plugs, 10si alt., hei dist, and solenoid on starter are all very easy to wire. A stock early CJ only has a few wires to make it work and certainly doesn't warrant the $$$$ pricetag of a Painless.

    Here's my EZWire writeup: http://boyink.com/cj6/complete-rewire-with-new-wiring-harness/

I'm not sure it even lives up to the level of detail you are talking about. While helpful -- especially in light of the less-than-idea EZ Wire instructions - it will take a lot of time. Space isn't an issue - if you do write it up and need a place to host it I'm sure Sparky would make room here on ECJ5.com.

I did read yours before my project and it was a good starter. Thanks for the good info.

I agree, my write up would be for a restore of a 74 as close to stock as I could. For the other engine and etc upgrades there could be a little section for the brake down of those necessary adjustments. (ie. 4.0 harness, 5.3 gm harness, diesel, etc)

Just kind of thinking that wires are a major concern for a lot of questions on ECJs. This way it would kind of bring together all the info in one spot.

Certainly wouldn't hurt. Some people say it's easy, done in less than a day, some say it's a major project. If we had a step by step with pics you wouldn't have to guess other people's abilities, you could decide if it's something you can do.

I am about to install my 4th EZ Wire kit and just bought 3 of them - oldnewparts off EBay was great to deal with and even gave me a discount on the kits and shipping for 3 at a time.

I've installed both, 3-painless kits and 8 or 9 ez kits. The instructions that come with the painless kit are better, more detail/troubleshooting tips. As for the quality of the kit the EZ wires are the same if not better than the painless. As for the ez wire spend the extra money and skip the mini fuse block. The bigger blade fuse block is easier to mount and the fuses are easier to work with.

For those wanting to do their own wiring, there are a bunch of items that have hit the market in the last few years, including the Bussmann fuse/relay/breaker boxes that use all the Packard/Delphi terminals and seals. The 15300 series blocks are available bussed or unbussed, in configerations of 20 fuse/breakers (ATM type), 10 fuse/breakers pus 3 relays of 10 fuse/breakers and 5 relays. The short lids fit the fuse only blocks while the deep lids fit the relays and breakers. When properly assembled, the blocks are completely waterproof. The blocks (less terminals and seals) are about $22 (I buy mine from connectorconcepts.com). Waytek has the 20 fuse version. Very compact. I have used about 15 of these and love them.

I was reading this hoping it didn't end. I'm on the verge of buying a EZ Wire kit and re-wiring my 72. I'm, however, gonna add HID headlights(with relays) and a few other amenity type accessories. I've had plenty of experience with vehicle wiring and electronics. It's amazing to me still that I work on cars daily that have over 40 ECM's and this jeep functions perfectly without a single control module :D

And will still be running just fine 50 years after all our "new" cars go dead.
