You could grind the end flat, center punch, then drill and tap for a 5/16 or 3/8 bolt. The shock will now be held on with a bolt and large washer. The bolt and washer doesn't bear much load at all so it'll be fine. Use a sharp drill bit and cutting fluid, start out with small bits and work your way up. Use a grade 5 bolt, maybe 3/4 or 1" long is fine, use the weakest grade of locktite on the bolt threads.

If you flog the heck out of your rig this repair might not last, but for normal use I'll bet it lasts as long as you have the Jeep.

Wait, you say you are restoring it? If you have easy access, as in "frame off", I'd cut the mount off the frame and do the repair on your bench. What I'd do is use a cutting wheel on a 4" grinder to completely cut the stud part away from the stamped part. THis will give you a stamped piece that doesn't have a hole and has no evidence of there having been a stud at all. Then I'd redrill holes for a new stud and weld them back in. I have some bolts that will work for you. PM me and I'll send you one out. Not sure if the length is right but the OD is right.

There was even a thread a couple months ago on replacing the original rivots that hold the mount on. You should be able to grind off the weld between the stud and mount and replace the stud.

Here's a tip: better to grind off a stubborn nut, or use a nut splitter, if you ever get in a similar bind. I've dremeled a slot on many a nut to break it free, much easier than alternative. I use the heck out the dremel reinforced cutting wheels.

I just finished my 73 frame off this year so I'm happy to help. The only thing I didn't do was the body. It has character and isn't so bad that I felt I needed to do it yet. And with the economy I figured now isn't the time to keep throwing money at the thing. Worst case I'd rather be forced to sell an inspected drivable vehicle than a pile of parts. Don't know why I worry. Our country's leaders say the economy is turning around so it must be true.
