Recently someone had a post that showed nice rear bumper and swingout tire carrier. I think there is a builder out there making them custom to order. I wondered if anyone had the builders info. Thanks for any help.

Another option is Cross Enterprises. A couple of people on here are using their stuff and seem happy enough.

Wow...I need to buy a welder, it'll be cheaper. But those are some nice bumper/tire carriers.

You might be surprised if you start pricing the components. Those bearing hub/axles that most people for the hinge on the swing out tire carrier run about $75 http://www.polyperformance.com/shop/Tire-Carrier-Hinge-p-2461.html

Latches run anywhere from about $25 up to $125, depending on how fancy you get.

The steel would probably be around $100. Even a cheapo 110v MIG is gonna run at least $300 for something big enough to weld 1/4" steel. Add another $100 at least for a gas bottle if you want nice clean welds like these have.

If I bought a welder I'd never get the bathroom/utility room remodel done for the wife. Then I'd have to sleep in the jeep and it's 25*F outside and it doesn't have a top.. Brrrrr.....

I bought a Hobart Handler 180 mig machine last year. Since then, I've outboarded the spring perches on my frame to accomodate Scout axles and I've patched some holes.

When I get to the body, it will become invaluable.

I highly recommend buying a welder. So many broken parts -- from small to large -- can be repaired (instead of replaced) with a little effort and practice. Then there's the fabrication work you can do.

I bought mine off craigslist for $450. New, they run close to $700.

Keep an eye out. The bargains are out there.

I have a 75 CJ5 & want a rear bumper/tire carrier. I checked out the Tuff Designses web page. It says the fit a 1976-2006. I e-mailed them & got a reply back & they said: It should fit and If you want it powder coated then it's $95 shipped or bare steel $430 shipped. Would you like to place an order? I just want to know if anyone know if it will bolt up to my 75 CJ5. They sure look nice & the price is good also.

    Please advise

    Thanks

Tried to order from Cross Enterprises. After 3 months of getting the runaround I gave up and am looking at local fab shops. Mike at Cross said he mailed the bumpers UPS and even gave me a tracking number. Nothing ever showed up. I would stay away from Cross Enterprises.
