    Door hinge question

How should I deal with this door hinge problem? Are there aftermarket hinges that will take care of it, or do I need to relocate the upper hinge and weld a longer door stud?

I guess you need a couple more pics of your dilemma and a more detailed description.

Is that pin on the door ? Or is it attached to the body?

I have a Meyers hard top and my upper hinge is mounted up beside the windshield and the lower hinge is down near where the body is stamped Jeep.

Does your door only have one pin ?

Are you going from steel doors to soft doors? Just my opinion but it looks like a wrangler/CJ7 door hinge was installed at some point. If I am correct (big if.....) Your hinge for your door should be located on the outside of the tub below the windshield. Mine are in line with the bottom of the dash on the outside of the tub and are a female hinge. This should be mounted with two small bolts but I dont recall the size. You may want to check your VIN to find out if your Jeep was originally an OPEN Jeep. It may have never came with a top, therefore other parts were integrated down the line to make it fit.

Yes, I looked at the picture and didn't understand what or if there is a problem.

Ok my bad for not having further explanation.

Installing Rock gear soft top I got a couple years ago and didn't get the install finished. The soft doors are designed for 2 hinges... My 61 CJ5 only has one lower door hinge location.

The top soft top hinge location would line up with my original windsheild hinge as seen in the picture. That is the upper soft top door (hinge)post sticking down showing how it lines up with the windsheild hinge.

I think I am going to have to install a second door hinge on the body of the jeep just lower than the windshield hinge and then "modify the soft top door post (to make it longer) to fit into a upper door hinge.

One problem is I don't have a welder. Second is I really didn't want to drill holes in my jeep if possible.... I will if needed.

I don't have more pic's right now so I hope the explanation is ok.

    What say's the experts?

Looks like you answered your question. If there is a pin, it needs a hinge.

The bottom hinge typically goes into a pocket in the body. Do you have a bottom hinge beside that?

The top hinges on Kayline tops were nothing more than a piece of heavy-gauge sheet metal bent to wrap around the hinge pin. The other end stuck out to meet the windshield frame. I'd think you could bend a hinge like that, or weld a piece of tubing to a tab, for a hinge.

Looks like the door was made to fit the 76+ w/s hinge with the mount made on it. I have a set of those off a '77 CJ-5 with factory soft top. Might be easier to build a hinge pivot that would mount to the existing hinge you have, provided you can get the screws out. Make it a bolt-on deal, using the original hinge screws to hold it on. Probably need longer screws/bolts though.

I thought about trying that too. Haven't decided yet.
