Is there a diff between early and late CJ5 corner guards except for the fuel filler hole ? Does anyone know who makes corner guards without the diamond plate?

I suggest these guys. http://offyourrockers.com/ See their order page for the plain steel. They quoted me $135 for the corners and $120 for the rockers in plain bare steel back in Feb. Probably close to the same now. Way thicker than Warrior Prod. or anyone else for earlys.:v6:

Found this thread will lurking at this great site. I have a few questions for anyone who has installed the off your rockers corner panels? How was the install? How is/was the form, fit and function? If you have installed, do you have pictures of your install? Can you provide tips for install and things to avoid?

    Thanks in advance.

I have no knowledge of these particular corners ,,but I can say get as many C clamps as you can
    you will need them

actually , I put the panel in place and I used a 2x12 to push , and I backed my jeep into a wall pushing the corner as tight as I could to the radius of the corner then clamped the snot out of it ,and started drilli'n.

Off your rockers has a quality product. I used the smoothe steel with no holes. I would give you pics of my install but they would not do you much good. in a pic you cannot see them. I did not mount mine in a standard way. They give you mounting hardware but i used my own. My goal was to make them invisible after paint.
I filled all of the holes in the original quarters and primed them in epoxy to ward off and rust or the posibility of moisture inbewteen panels. I then countersunk the holes in the panels with a drillbit and used flat socket cap screws. Start in the center of the radius and work your way out. If i remember right I had to trim a bit off of the side where the tailgate frame is because it was a tad bit too long and would not lay completely flat at the radius.
After installing all of the screws i took my grinder and ground down what was let of the capscrew that was setting above the panel. I then used the welder to weld around the capscrew and fill in the socket hole and ground it down. I then used paintable seam sealer and sealed all the way around the pannel to prevent moisture from entering.
After paint 9 out of 10 people never even know they are there.
I used off road only's lite dots for tail lights so I could limit the number of holed drilled in the pannels. I made sure to seal all of the holes from the inside (wires) to keep moisture out.
My fuel filler is mounted inside of my wheel well out of sight. Looks cool there but kinda sucks when it is muddy.
I hope this answers your questions.

Oh yea I forgot to mention you will need a few clamps to hold them up there but they fit well so you do not need to do alot of clamping.

Thanks roadhog304 it good to hear that they fit well. I will not be putting them on like you did, I bet they look great. I like the rear panel protection look and the fact that these are very functional is an added benefit. In my opinion it's better to have the protection and not need it than not have it and need it...

I used the flat black steel panels from Warrior products: http://www.warriorproducts.com/catalog/pre-1976-jeep-cj/body-armor/rear-corners/
I chose to drill all of my own holes. I used stainless steel button head bolts to hold them in place instead of the rivet they came with. The fit was good, only minor trimming where the tail gate latches are and minor clamping to get them to fit snug up against the fender.

I have the same ones, only I got them unpainted, so I could color match them. I was also going to use button heads instead of the rivets....what size are the ones you used, and are they readily available? Thanks!

Make sure you use at least epoxy primer on the back sides to prevent rust

Just curious what taillights you're using? I am toying with the idea of puttung some corner protection on, and I have some flush mounted tail lights but they won't fit between the filler neck and the top of the inner fender.

Off the top of my head I want to say 3/16" x 3/4" long. And there's one 3/8" button head that also catches the roll bar mount inside the jeep. I chose the button head style because I thought they'd be less likely to hang up on anything, oh and they are stainless too. Picked em up at the industrial hardware store.

These are just the typical 4" round lights. Got em at a truck parts house. I had to drill a 4-1/2" hole through the corner guard and the fender, then they're just held in with a rubber grommet. I moved the filler neck down about a 1/2" for fitment.

Ah ok thanks. I was thinking about moving the filler to the side of the Jeep as I saw somebody do on here. I guess both are options if you're putting corners on that will cover up all the holes I have in the back.
