    My logic may sound a lil twisted: Im considering putting a TJ body and front end on my CJ frame!

    How much longer is the TJ and where is the difference in length?
    Would it be possible to use the CJ hood and/or grill?
    Is there a difference in frame widths (mainly at the front to swap the steering and suspension)?

    The other day I bought a 1997 'TJ in very good shape except the transfercase is gone. I havent hauled it home yet (it's 450 miles away)
    In order to plate the TJ, It has to pass Govt inspection. My '75 CJ5 is considered an antique requiring no inspection and plates and insurance are $120/yr. but the body is pretty much shot.
    Im prepared to make new mounts and chop the body if need be.
    I can modify pretty much anything except the frame or I have to put my CJ through an inspection.
    The Serial Number is stamped on the CJ frame in 2 places, so thats what the Jeep is able to be registered as.
    I was finally "in the right place at the right time"! I paid $100 for the TJ!

    the weel base on the tj is significantly longer than the cj5. Its also wider, and heavier.

    I would say that this is more or less an impossible swap. If would be much cheaper and easier to fix the TJ than to take it apart, shorten the body to fit on a cj5 frame and then figure out how to mount it and make all the gauges work. You'd also probably have to shorten the doors to fit between the wheel wells.

    A YJ tub would be easier, but still way more work than its worth. It follows the old adage that just because you have something lying around, doesnt make it a good swap.

    Specs are 71 and older CJ5 = 81" wheelbase
    72/up CJ5 = 84" wheelbase
    TJ=93.4" wheelbase

    I agree with Dante. Get a tcase for the TJ, sell it, buy a replacement steel or glass tub for the CJ with the profit you make on the TJ. :)
