    Hey guys, '69 CJ5 w/ 225, manual choke.

The little rod that goes from the choke butterfly to the fast idle cam... well the top end of it fell out. Just cruising on the highway, then i bump it out of gear when i get to my favorite off-ramp. the jeep seems to be shaking at the stoplight, but it can't hear the motor over the heater to be sure.

i shut the heater off, and the engine is coughing along at *maybe* a couple hundred RPM, and the choke rod has fallen out. does anyone have a picture of which orientation it's supposed to be in? i can hook it back up with the carb on the jeep and it'll work fine for a few days until it falls out again. i rebuilt the carb this summer and i thought i had it back in there right because it went from august until last tuesday without falling out... but i guess i was wrong.

i checked the Rochester 2g service manual and didn't find a picture or diagram that applied to my choke and was clear enough. also tried searching, plz forgive any redartedism on my part if i missed it.

    wait, it's possible i'm a moron.

there's a little groove in the rod that looks like a slot for a clip. i'll fix it with a twist tie until i can get one from a hardware store.

this explains the extra one in the carb kit.

    fail.

Hey, any time you learn something, it's not a total fail! No pain, no blood, no carnage, no fire, no dents, no scratches, and you gained knowledge.....you did good!

When I was a young'un, we called those "Jeezus Clips". As in, "JEEZUS! Where'd that thing go?!?!"

I have had that exact problem on the 71 with VERY worn rod and fixed it with a little tack weld on the end to make up for the worn in groove.

yeah, the "extra" one in the kit was like a miniature cotter pin. the twist-tie only has to last me about 45 miles. I think it'll be fine... with the exception of this morning the last time it fell out was Monday morning.
