spools, lockers and LSD

I am researching traction devices for my 63 CJ5 with the stock Dana 25 front and Dana 44 rear. It seems there are limited offerings out there for these axles. I see Lock-Right makes a unit for both front and rear.

Any others lockers out there for these axles?
How about spools and limited slip units?
    Is the Dana 44 in a 63 CJ5 as 10 spline or a 19 spline?

My vehicle is stricty off road and snow plowing in deep snow. I was leaning toward the Lock-Right but then started thinking I could accomplish the samething with a spool for less money. Given this is off road only, it seems a spool would be fine. My thinking was put a spool or locker in the rear and a locker or a limited slip unit in the front.:?

I would just weld the Diff if it is off road only.

Drain the diff, Get a little bottle of Laquer thinner put it in a spray bottle and spray the carrier down and let evaporate. Air the diff out again and get some 7018 rod and weld the spiders together..

    Then go have fun....

The only down side I can think of is wrt plowing. You may experience some surprising behavior in snow if you lock the axles. May not be much of a problem at low speed with the plow down, but it will steer on its own based on which wheels have traction.

You can get a Powerlock for the rear that was factory equipment for these Jeeps.

I thought about welding the diff but decided otherwise. I want to be able to put it back to OE if I choose.

Tim, do you know a source for a complete Powerlock unit?

Anyone know of anything else out there?

Not sure what the spline count is, but R&P would know. You could try R&P or the forum WTB boards (here, WillysTech, maybe others) and eBay. Randy's Ring&Pinion may know of a source.

The detroit I have listed in the classified might work ok for your rear axle in this application but it is 19 spline and suspect you have 10's. As stated in the add, I don't think too much of these lockers for any vehicle that will see regular road use.

In a stock 63' the Detroit Locker will not work without using FF axles. :(

I have the same setup with the 25 in the front, and a 44 in the rear. My favorite idea is to put one of Herm's 30 spline full floating conversions in the rear, and add a selectable locker - like an ARB. I think the front could be left alone at that point - or a Powerloc could be added if you are ambitious.

I'm currently acquiring parts for the rear conversion myself. Certainly not the easiest or cheapest route, but it seemed like one of the better options available if you don't want to swap axles, and need versatility.

The FF kit in the rear of mine made it possible to load it with an OX locker. Love it. For the same functionality, I went with the D30 up front so I could put and OX in it as well. I only use the locker in the front 10% of the time I wheel, but when I need it, I need it.

At one time Power Loks were also made for the Dana 25 front, that’s what I have.
They’re somewhat rare though. Search classifieds, eBay, Craig’s list,….etc.

    So basically my choices are:
    Lock Right
    Power Lock
Detroit Locker with additon of FF axles

    ???

Anyone now of any other options for a Dana 25 and Dana 44 10 Spline

If you don't mind the wheels hanging out there are a large number of options for just swapping the entire axle. Cost wise it probably might even be cheaper than the FF. The PowerLoc's work reasonably well and I doubt that you will drive it enough to wear the clutch pack out, but they are certainly not a locker.
