I know where there are a couple aluminum hardtops but I think they are for CJ5's. They are just deterriorating away. So how hard would it be to get one for a CJ5 and stretch it for a CJ6? I don't need it, just thinking out loud I guess.........and I hate to see anything jeep not get saved.

    This thread got me thinking......http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=70230

Do you need to stretch it? You could Always put it on as is and just have a short open bed area..

You would have to Notch rear corners to fit it but I have seen it done.

Probably the only thing that would be the biggest pain would be the roof if you were to try and section it.

The side panels would be 20 minutes of work for a body shop with a good press/brake guy.

if you had two tops to pull material from I think it'd be easier (extra roof section). At one point I was thinking of putting a 5 top on my cj6 and having the 20" behind open, but that was before the full cage was built

When we got Tonk he had a full size hard top that the PO had built out of a halftop, a coupla square yards of aluminum flashing and about 5 gallons of bondo.

    It was Fugly.

    Very Fugly.

See here for how *not* to extend a top.

heres my 2 cents, if your paitent enough to work with the aluminum, and you have all the tools and feel confident that what your gonna do is gonna turn out the way you like, then go for it. i found out that what i was going to end up with was not to my standards, so better to by a soft top. but my top had a lot of damage and work that needed to be done to it. the job andrew did on his top is great.
