So...the haynes manual doens't really help that much. It provides a great overview, but I was wondering if anyone had any input on which manual to buy. I've seen the jeep rebuilder's manual, the Technical Service Manual, and a Factory Shop Service manual. Any ideas? anyone have a a72 cj manual that they're wanting to sell?

The factory service manuals I have are for late '70's through mid '90's and they are GREAT!! Moses Ludels Jeep Rebuilders Manuals are well worth the money also.

Check out this thread for links to the '74 manual. I know it's not the same, but there may be some similarities, in particular for engines, tranny, axles, etc. that might help you until you get a '72 manual.

You may want to search online, you might find one for free.

Haynes are garbage. Skip the Chilton as well. It tries to cover too much in not enough space (how many model years??).

As the other fellows have noted, the factory service manual is fantastic. Lots of solid information and, best of all, excellent illustrations.

Haven't seen the Rebuilder's manual yet... got some sketchy reviews over at Amazon.

The rebuilder's manual is great as long as you don't try to use it as a replacement for the Factory Service Manual. There's info there that isn't in the FSM.

I can back up that comment nickmil. I think the rebuilders manual has some great pics and some good step by step instructions. It really helped me out on the Dana 30 job on my '74. But...the FSM is the bible for Jeeps.
