    Ok!, I'm confussed.
I just read Hudsonhawk's article on the YJ spring conversion. I also did a search on the subject.
    My questions are:
    1. with the yj conversion with a 2.5" lift, does this halft to be a spring over conversion?
2.Hudsonhawk said that 76 and up spring hangers and shackle hangers were needed. In doing research 76-86 are cj parts and 87-95 are yj parts. Arn't the cj parts only for 2" wide springs and the yj parts fit the 2.5 wide springs used on the yj?
I'm starting with a new to me late 70 cj5 frame, so I can do all the upgrades I want.
I'm also looking at strething the front by only a couple inches and moving the back by 1". Is this possable by just moving spring hangers, without to much body modifications.

    1. No you don't have to go spring over with the 2 1/2" springs actually that would give you to much lift in my opinion, especially of your running the stock narrow axles.

    2. You need the YJ or rear CJ7 2 1/2" wide hangers.

I stretched mine out to about 90", I have a long nose, by welding a 2x4 box rear bumper on to the frame and moving the hangers back as far as I could. I had to cut the rear tub to clear the tires I guess I went a little to far since I've clearanced the tank with the rear diff a time or two. On the front I built a 2x5 box front section and grafted it into the frame. This gave me the drop I needed for the shakle reverse and pushed things out some in the front. I'm also running Waggy axles so I had to out board the front springs.

thank you, I agree about it being to high. I'm running a 2.5" lift know with 32's and it is just about right. I had just read in some of the treads that the yj spring had a reverse arc, requireing it to be mounted spring over. I just want to be sure before going to all the trouble of doing the project and not likeing it. I'm boxing in the frame and want to be able to flex it out without damageing the frame again.

I did the spring under with 4" BDS yj springs, shackle reversal......there are a bunch of pics in my build thread (in build/fab)........I absolutely love the conversion...smoother ride, not as tipsy, what little I've wheeled it since completion it seems to do great off road

Sprung over YJ springs tend to flatten out and assume a reverse arc which you don't want. I've added additional leaves to correct this but this is using old tired stock spring packs.
