SO.....come home from work early today and decide to take the jeep out for a joy ride. To the gas station I go, fill the tank up with gas, and joy ride. Put the jeep back in the garage(no top) and go inside. Go back in the garage an hour later and puddle of gas under the tank. SO, I'll be taking suggestions on plastic vs. steel. Also could anybody tell me what size the fuel lines are on top of the tank so I can have some line when I go to replace the tank.

Yes, the line to the carb is 5/16", and the return line is 1/4".

From what I've read here, I'd go with the MTS plastic tank. You'll need a skid plate if you don't already have. http://www.mtscompany.com/jeep.htm

Checked out both links,,, both kits & tanks look identical. I LOVE the 21 gallon tank though,,, might have to put it on my (never ending) "To-Do" list.

You will be happy with either of the plastic or steel tanks, IMO.

My only worry about the 21 gallon tank is that it would make the Jeep a tail dragger. From the picture, it would move the skidplate down by 5 or 6 inches.

I have used US Tank Sealer from POR-15 several times and it really works(Yes you do have to follow the directions). Most of these tanks rust through in a very small hole from the outside in. Usually from contact with the skidplate. The overall condition of the tank is usually still pretty good. I have done several tanks at once with the quart size kit, but the motorcycle/small tank kit works very well for a Jeep tank for about $45.

MTS is the only manufacture of plastic tanks. The ones you see on other sites are just rebadged and marked up. Buy directly from them and it will only cost half the price, and they are great to work with.
