    Hi,

I am taking apart a CJ3b that has been converted to a Dauntless and T-14. When I pulled the D18 I found that they put a 26Tx10 bull gear in the original 1 1/8 inch D18 to make it "fit" the T-14 with a plastic spacer to hold the bull gear in position. It didn't work. The plastic spacer got chewed up and the bull gear was moving all around. It is a mess.

I can't find on the diagrams how the bull gear should be installed to the transmission. Does it need a washer or crush sleeve or something to locate it on the shaft properly?

    Thanks!

There's a ~1/4" washer/spacer that slides on the shaft before the gear. The exact dimensions will have to come from others, the only one I have is installed.:v6:

Thanks, the homemade plastic spacer is about 1/2 inch thick. I am guessing the input gears were very different.

I am thinking about dumping the whole setup for a sm465.

sounds like you're missing the spacer for the rear bearing.
it's pictures here, at the rear of the trans, in front of the nut and washer.
The Jeep P/N for the spacer is: 991079
should be fairly easy to find
The physical dimensions of the gear are the same, except for the tooth counts.
I wouldn't toss the trans unless you have broken teeth or other major problems with it.
this could be an easy fix....

Thanks for the diagrams and info. I will be glad when my service manual arrives. Now I see the spacer that is missing.

Unfortunately, the splines on the output shaft of the t-14 are all chewed up as well, enough that the gear is sloppy when mounted. The inside of the transmission looks good, so maybe I will just rebuild it and replace the main shaft.

The Dana 18 is toast, but I am switching to Dana 20 and a centered rear axle anyway.

I will definitely check out O-R Four Wheel.

    Thanks!
