Was there any conclusion as to whether the radiator shroud offered by Partsdude 4x4 fits a CJ5. It's advertised for a Jeepster? I did a search here but couldn't find the answer. This is for the 22" wide core and not the narrower one.

I was wondering this same question recently, and just couldn't justify spending the $140 for the thing and also not know if it even fit or not. What I did was went down to my HVAC contractor, took him my radiator and dimensions of where the fan came in toward the radiator, told him I wanted a shroud made out of sheetmetal and how I wanted it angled and cut and looks, etc. and he built me one for $31 and it lowered my water temp by 55*, so I figured it was a win win for sure. Definitely not as factory looking or as sharp looking as the other shroud, but it is EXACTLY what I wanted and needed, for just a pittance in comparison. Don't know if anyone else has done this. Good Luck!!

In beeser's defense that thread doesn't address his question. :)

I don't know that anyone has tried what he's asking yet and can't think of a reason it wouldn't work, I did touch on that there, but like I said, I don't know that anyone has tried and it's not really addressed in that thread.

Hey I was tryin to help,

I saw this an thought it was right.

Those won't fit. We've discussed that before too.

They probably fit a '71 with the wide radiator but not the majority of V6 CJ-5s.

But I do agree, based on our combined experiences on the same day that when it gets hot a shroud might be useful.

I read all of the posts mentioned including all searches for "radiator shroud" but couldn't find anything conclusive. I was just about to purchase one of the reproduction shrouds from Partsdude and thought it might be a good idea first to raise the question one more time. Partsdude says that he sold a lot of the shrouds to CJ5 owners so I'll go with that and the fact that he'll allow a return if it doesn't fit.

In one of the searched posts someone mentioned that the engine offset might be an issue. My '70 CJ5 with a 22" wide radiator is offset 3/4" from center. Based on Partsdude's website, his shroud looks like it has a similar offset.

I'll let you guys know how the shroud fits when I get it installed.

    Just a thought,

I need a radiator shroud for my new/old 66 CJ5 :v6: too. Does someone have a good shroud I could borrow or buy to make a pattern. I worked in the boat industry and have made patterns before. I even made a fiberglass gas tank that fit behind the driver's seat for a Jeep pickup truck, a long time ago. The shroud would need to be in good shape.

After the mold is made I could make fiberglass shrouds. I would return the original shroud and a fiberglass one to the loaner. I think I can do it without damaging the original shroud. Once a mold or plug is made many can be made.

If anyone is interested PM me.

Just thought I'd mention my Daughter's '70 CJ-5 has the wide radiator also. The commando radiator fit right in. The '67 I'm parting has the narrow V-6 Radiator. I believe that it wasn't just '71 that had the wider one. Granted, just based upon what I have here so take it for what it's worth.

Based on previous posts and observations I think the following is generally agreed.

The '70 and '71 CJ5 had the wider 22" radiators.
The Jeepster radiator (wider version if they by chance made a smaller one) is the same as the one used on CJ5s except some Jeepster radiators had an additional outlet and addtitional internal coils for the automatic transmission cooler.
The mounting holes on the shroud for both the Jeepster and CJ5 are in the same location.
The radiator shroud on both the Jeepster and CJ5 have an offset opening for the fan.

I think the only only question that remains is whether the fan opening is in the same position. I'll find that out when I install the shroud from Partsdude. Again, the lateral fan offset on my '70 CJ5 is 3/4" toward the passengers side.

I had one of the narrow shrouds but sold it to a member here. Maybe he would volunteer lending it too you if he's listening.

I just picked up the radiator that I had rebuilt. Went with a 3-row core instead of the 2-row that it had before. Also picked up some new hoses from NAPA. Now just waiting to receive the shroud. While getting the hoses at NAPA they showed different part numbers for the '70 and '71 CJ5 with the 225 V6. Anyone know why?

Looks like the '68 CJ5 had the narrow radiator. Correct?

Yes, it was only the 70-71 models that had the wider radiator.
