V8 swap

    Hi All,
    I am about to undertake a swap on two of my jeeps. I have an 83 cj-7 with a factory automatic, dana 300, and a 258 i6. I also have a 76 cj-5 that is running a 304, I want to swap the 304 into the 83. My questions are...
    What tranny is in the 83?
    Will a 304 bolt up?
    What mods will need to be made?
    Will it require an adaptor?
    Any help I can get on this would be much appreciated. Thanks!

    Your 83 should have a T176 4 speed. your 76 probably has the t150 3 speed. the 304 and the 258 share the same bell housing bolt pattern. you should be able to make this swap with very little problems.

    If it's an auto, it's probably a 727 Torqueflight (Chrysler). First thing for you to decide is which trans you want to run in it, then which transfer case,,, go from there.
