I searched and searched but did not come up with anything:

Does anyone know the reading that one should see with a multimeter on the back of the gauge cluster during normal operation. Especially at the fuel and temp posts fed from the sending units? This is for a 55' cluster with the external reg but I believe I am going to bypass that very shortly.

You are talking 6v system, right! That's what your gauges are designed for..

Yeah, but I think I am going to convert the temp/fuel to 12v out of a 0-9 gauge. Just trying to accuratly test both gauges to see what is going on

The output of the regulator to the power terminals of the gauges should be around 5 volts.

What you read on the sensor posts will depend on how hot your engine is & how much fuel is in the tank  I don't think I've ever seen those numbers published, they always talk about the resistance readings of the sensors.

Either way, the temp sensor & fuel sendor are the same parts whichever gauge cluster you use.

Well, I decided to attack the grounds first so I grounded the tank sender to the body and grounded the gauge cluster to the dash with a ground wire. This gave me a pegged fuel gauge (which did not even move before) and nothing on the temp. With a mostly full fuel tank and a hot engine I have around 30 ohms on the fuel post and 20 ohms on the temp post. 14 volts going to the reg and around 2 coming off the reg. Seems like the reg is bad, the fuel ohms are high, and not sure about temp. Any one else have a different opinion?

So after reading those two links can I Swap the huages out of my 0-9 gauge and install them in the 0-10 gauge? Also if i do this can I safely assume that the 0-9 fuel gauge has a regualtor built in so i can by pass the ext regualtor on my 55' 0-10??

Should be able to put 12v in to the fuel gauge post:http://www.film.queensu.ca/cJ3B/Tech/FuelGauge.html I'd ground your replacement cluster and run some jumpers to it so you can work on it easier than under the dash. If it all checks out, then swap away. Bypass the original reg, and use the 12v bulbs from your other cluster.
