Most T90's that I have driven are silent with clutch in or clutch out. This T86 has a little bit of noise (like running water) when the clutch is out.

    Clutch depressed - no noise
Clutch up and Trans in neutral - water rushing. It is low volume but I can hear it. You can sort of feel it in the shifter if you put pressure on the shifter lever.
Clutch up, trans in neutral and transfer case in neutral - noise stays.
The noise is there in all gears when driving and does not change pitch or volume too much. Once you get going the it gets drowned out by all the other jeep noise.

Everything shifts great, does not pop out of any gears on deceleration, lube was drained and refilled with GL4. Overall its all working like it should.

What is normal? silent or a little bit of gear and bearing spinning noise?

Sounds like a noisy input shaft/ mainshaft bearing.

My guess is the needle bearings on the input shaft and/or both the needles and the shaft.

    Thanks,
I should probably plan a rebuild then.
Bottom line is that it should be silent.
