and I would like to know the exact procedure. I know Mike B has done this, as many other have. Mike- do you have a write-up on this?

If not, can y'all help me?

I will be starting this project in 2 weeks. I need to know what I will be needing in a "kit" and any tools I may need also.

    Thanks for the help!

you will need a brass punch, shim kit, bearings, new knuckle seal, and a fish scale. get the knuckle seal @ napa is price ($40 a pop, but is ONE piece rubber) and polish the heck out of the axle end w/wd40 and emery cloth (600grit). Did this to mine and NO LEAKS with 90w140 in the ends.

 I bought mine (Omix-Ada) from the local 4WD shop for something like $8 per side. This included the rubber seal, one piece as well, felt, and the metal plates.

Herm quoted me a knuckle seal kit @ $10.50 per side.

    (Looks like I might not need it now :D :D :D )

Dennis if you get a chance take some pics of the progress. Been planning on the same project for some time. Actually more to change to studs, but...

I used the Vernco writeup when I did mine. I have nothing to add to it...;)

Do the knuckle-stud upgrade while you're in there though.

I read through (briefly) the vernco. It looks pretty thorough. Stud upgrade and tie rod ends look appropriate also.

Mike- How much do you figure you had in parts? How long did it take you?

Pat- I'll take plenty of pics, that way if I screw up someone can tell me what I did wrong ;)

Why do you need a bluetip for the KP bearings?

I've never had any issues with 'em.

Sometimes they are very very very rusty and impossible to remove without heat.

Not a clue - it's been a couple years now, and I was ordering those parts along with all the R&P bearings for an entire axle rebuild.

Takes me an afternoon if I don't loose anything or forget something and that's a leisurely pace with .

Really, I could probably knock a front axle out in 2-3 hours with help.
