Sooooo I tried a search but couldn't find the answer. I am getting 14 volts to the input post on the regulator (the one on the back of the gauge) but I am only getting around 2 volts on the output post which feeds the rest of the gauge. My fuel and temp gauges do not work at all, and I know the sending unit is brand new for temp but unsure of the fuel sender. I am assuming that the regulator is not working correctly and hence my gauges will not work. The gauges have not worked since I got the Jeep, but it was not hooked up either. Any thoughts or am I stuck with the gauge not working ever again. I do not want to swap it out due to the mileage being original and correct.

Swap in 12v gauges (just the fuel and temp, keep the orig cluster) and ditch the regulator, or bypass the regulator and use a dropping resistor. I assume you're converted to 12v, your original gauges and '55 electrical were 6v. I assume they were not hooked up due to the 12v conversion before you got it?

You assume correct sir, painless 12v wiring but stock gauges. I guess I need to find 12v guages to go in there. I have a 0-9 gauge, wonder if those will work?

You can put a three terminal gas gauge with the built in regulator into the '55 case but you'll have to hack up the case a bit.

The regulator should put out 5 volts, if you dig around they are still available or you could build one using a 7805 solid state voltage regulator.

When playing with gauges make sure you always have a good ground connection or they *WILL* smoke :(.
