my buick even fire is a late 70s engine with unknown miles. once warm the idle oil pressure is about 10-12 psi. should i worry about it. or rebuild the pump? sometimes if i warm the engine up and re-start i get what sounds like a lifter noise. if i let sit and re-start it goes away.

Use the search function. You'll find a lot of discussion on oil pressure.

I wouldn't worry about 10-12 at idle hot. If you check the specs for that particular engine, I think you'll find you're in the ballpark.
    My 67 225 runs about 18-20 with 10W30, and about 22-24 with 15W40.

Mine runs a solid 35lbs. hot. Of coarse less than 500 miles on the rebuild and the high volume oil pump.

At this rate it will take me 50 to 60 years to get close to that. R)

It took mine almost 43 years.;)
I've put ~65K on it in 12 years myself.

thanks for responce to question i searched for a half hour or so before post and still wasnt shure of normal psi at idle. I found oil pump rebuild info and may look at the pump if pressure goes lower. or i could drop the oil pan and look at crankshaft bearing clearences? any thoughts on those two ideas.

Seriously 10 is good when hot.
I read of jeep with 5 and nothing bad happens.
I put in a new pump and shimmed it and I get 25-30 cold and 9-12 hot.
Your not going to do better than that unless its brand new motor.

A high pressure pump has been know to cause new problems for the dist gear which is where the oilpump gets its power.

As said there is tons of info here on the whole mess.

If you have 10 your good.
I always throw in a can of STP on older motors. FWIW

10lb's oil pressure per 1000 rpm's is a safe mumber to go by.

I have to disagree. Mine runs ~20+ hot at idle, and 38-45 running down the road, with 107K on the motor/ oil pump.
