I have a 71' CJ5. The gas pedal is the rubber type wth the JEEP logo in the middle. On the back of it, it looks like it has a little track where the rod rubs. The rod does not attach to the pedal at all.

Are they supposed to be attached?

When I'm driving around and it gets bumpy the pedal can flop forward, which can be a bit unnerving.

I ordered a replacement pedal, but they one they sent me was metal, and looked crappy and cheap, and was for the 4-cyll engine anyway.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Jay

Mine is the same way, no hard point attachment to the pedal itself, but it does rest against the throttle rod... Check to be sure the two pins at the base are fully inserted. I replaced mine about 5 years ago with a NOS unit from e-bay. Never have found a source for factory replacements as you describe.

Unless you are keeping your jeep totaly stock i would recommend converting the throttle linkage to a cable.much smoother and doesn't bounce around off-road.i have had mine both ways and prefere the cable, but if it's stock than it's a non issue.

Which pedal assy is that Mike? I have been wanting to convert mine to a cable for the exact reasons you described.

Do you have any other pictures of the interior? The jeep looks awesome.

it is a LOKAR pedal and the LOKAR universal cable kit.any dealer should have these or variations of it.

The suspended pedal and cable setup from a later CJ or FSJ is very similar in function to the Lokar parts, though not as beautiful. Might be a good choice if you want a junkyard solution.
