Has anyone had any experience with installing new carpeting in their 72-75 CJ5? I'm looking at a company called Auto Custom Carpeting, and they offer full carpet kits for these jeeps. Do they really fit? Will they fit a '75 fiberglass tub without the toolbox under the passenger seat?

If your Jeep ever sees trail time or has the top off, don't put carpet in it. If you want something put rubber mats but the carpet just collects moisture, tree stuff, sand, and anything else that comes close to the Jeep.

    I cut my own:

So far so good - but the red piping is fading. Should have just done black.

Cost was ~ $150-175 by the time all said and done.

Rubber mats will hold moisture under them as well as all that other stuff. I wouldn't do carpet on a hard-core offroad rig but for our purposes I've liked it.

I just installed a full set from ACC in Pete. The contouring was a little off but not bad otherwise. I bought some jute padding (plain and foilbacked) and glued it to all pieces. I installed it w/ snaps so I can remove it in short order if I want to. It has made a huge difference in the overall experience of riding in the jeep. No more blistered toes and you can hear the stereo now. I also did the tranny tunnel and the firewall behind exhaust w/ hushmat. Unless your in and out of the water everyday I think its a great upgrade.:v6:

    To grannyscj:

Is the carpet molded to fit around/over the passenger side under-seat toolbox, or is it flat like the driver side? My body is a fiberglass reproduction with no toolbox, so I'm hoping the carpet is flat.

Does the carpet go over, or under the transmission cover?

Do you recall the part number from ACC? The one I'm looking at is #11177-75. Sorry for so many questions, but the people on the phone at ACC were not all that knowledgeable about specifics.

    Thanks,

There was a dealer-installed carpet set that snapped in, indoor-outdoor type.
    Works well, removes easily.
    Should be easy to duplicate.

I have a set of that in pretty nice shape after I hosed the racoon poop out of it about six times. Made of some kind of stuff that doesn't hold moisture like cotton would. Not sure what it's made of.
