Glad to see the forum is alive and well, I have not been on it for a long time. But in the past you folks have been a great help, for example my HEI upgrade has been great.

Finally took my 68 CJ, 225, out on a trip (California, southern sierras, monache meadows). Overall the old girl did great. One area I always seem to have trouble with is the carb. At some point in the jeeps life someone decided a 4 barrel carb was needed. So the original intake manafold was switched to an aftermarket one and a quadrajet was put on top. This carb was worn out so I switched to a newer edelbrock carb a few years back. This carb works well on the street at home, but when I hit the trail, especially a dirt road with small bumps, the carb has problems, It seems to hit bumps, loose power, need to work the gas pedal, a little puff of smoke, and then it picks up again.

So I was thinking, what is the best, most simple, worry free carb that I should be using? I really dont know squat about carbs, and really dont want to be messaing with adjustments on the trail, I just would like to put something on that works reliably. I just wonder if it would be better to go back to a more stok 2 bbl carb, which one? If so, I also wonder if I can get a converter for the 2bbl to be mounted on the current intake, anyone got a stock intake manifold?

If it helps, I have an old F134 Carter YF I can offer for trade (it needs to be rebuilt).

Thanks for your input. Sorry to be so long winded.

If you want simple, it's hard to beat the Motorcraft 2100 or 2150. These are 2V carbs, so you'd have to get an adapter to your manifold.

The Quadrajet should work well. They have a great reputation as an excellent off-pavement carburetor.

you might try an in-line fuel pressure regulator
turn it down to 1-2 pounds of pressure when off road
just remember to turn it back up for the highway
it will help keep the fuel bowl level lower so not so much slosh on the washboards.
lowering your air pressure will help as well.
