    Hi,

I had to set aside my ECJ5 build for family reasons, but it’s coming back out of storage. I’ve had a lot of time to plan and now my never ending build is changing directions. I need some thoughts and opinions from you experts…

Recently, I got a set of stock steel wheels from ’82 cj7. I’m guessing these are 7” wide… I know they are 15”s. Once I get the old tires off, I can measure – but does anyone know in the interim if indeed a stock steelie from ’82 would have been 7”?

So, if they are indeed 7”, will my 31x10.5x15 work ok, or is a 7” too narrow? Then here’s the real kicker, would a 33x12.5x15 work, or is the 7” rim way too narrow. I’ve seen a few guys running 32’s and 33’s on what look like stock steelies on this site. Not sure the width of those tire/rim combos – would love to know.

    Thanks in advance.

    I personally would not run a 12"wide tire on a 7" rim.

The 31s will be ok. The 33 need at minimum 8 inches.

You could run a bfg 33-10.50 or swamper 34-9.50

Thanks everyone. Got a tire off the wheel today, the rims are actually 15x6. so the 33x12.5's are out. Think it's ok to run a 10.5 on a 6 inch rims? I like the look of the steelies.
