I have an opportunity to get a '79 cj7 with a 304 engine with an automatic trans. I plan to remove the engine and install in my '80 CJ7 with a 5speed manual trans. Question: Will the 304 install to the manual trans, without any modification or kit? Thanks!

Should bolt up. Might have to change the crossmember location. I'm guessing you have a t5 behind a 6 cyl at the moment. That tranny isn't the strongest might not live long. Depends how u drive

If the engine in the CJ-7 is a 258, the trans will bolt up but the engine mounts won't. If it's a 151, neither will fit.

You will also need a flywheel that is balanced for the 304.

yeah you will definitely need a 304 flywheel. THe motor mounts will need to be moved or taken from teh donor jeep. the bolt pattern should be the same for the bell housing. Which 5 speed do you have? the jeep 5 speeds aren't known for their ability to handle big power.
