I was getting ready to install my fiberglass body on the jeep Saturday, trying to finish new fuel lines, tank install, wiring harness etc.. A friend was helping, and was fiddling with the clutch linkage and throwout lever. He said and I quote "Is this clutck lever thing sticking out of the housing supposed to move all the way around?" I looked and he was wiggling the throwout arm all around inside the clutch housing. I consulted my Haynes manual and it shows the diagram of the clutch components, yet is not detailed enough to show the connection or lack of connection of throwout arm. :?

So.... Is it supposed to move rather freely? Does the forked end ride on the throwout bearing and just stay using spring and boot?

Trying to clarify before I begin pulling transmission and transfer case.

mine just kinda flops around, but there is a pivot ball that you need to align the center to when you hook it up to the linkage.

The clutch fork rides grabs the throw-out top and bottom. Also spring held on to the support ball. There should be very little movement up/down and forward and back will be some where around 1 to 2 inches.

Is the only way to complete the alignment and fix the movement of the arm to remove the housing?

you may be able to do it without removing the bellhousing being able to look through the hole in the side.....
