Anyone figured out how to use short backed seats and shoulder belts effectively?

    Pictures?

    Good link! Thanks.

I have the racing belts/shoulder belts.
I was wondering about using them with short backs, but after seeing that, I may scrounge up some pickup truck belts!
They just made a GREAT install out of those!

If you are talking about a 4 or 5 point system, you can NOT use the seatback for the should belt support. You could put a cross brace in between the rollbar at the correct height.

I'm aware you can't attach to the seat.

What I was talking about was a post for the connection point, with maybe a padded head rest while I'm at it...

I have a TON of these belts left over from the race cars (you are required to change belts every two years in our style of racing),
And I though about adding some shoulder belts (4 point belts) to the little CJ-5 since I'm installing cage shortly.
While I'm bending up tubes... Might as well with the belts laying here and everything....

But after seeing how neat and clean the side shoulder belt install when it from the link that Nickmil posted, I'm leaning that way,
Especially since I don't do much but trail ride in this little 'Heep' anyway...

Was wondering what everyone else had done...
And if anyone was using 4 point shoulder straps with orignal short back seats?

I had these belts in my '73 long ago (mid '70s) for a short while, but they were not properly installed. The place I worked for was heavily into Baja racing, and all the race cars had them.

The 4" wide seat belt works well in most circumstances, but for everything but racing the full harness seems very impractical. I presume you could put a lateral bar behind the seat backs and mount the shoulder belts so they would function properly. This is a real head-knocking hazard for rear seat passengers, however. Plus it blocks access to the back.

Supposedly these shoulder belts are intended to be used with the crotch aka submarine belt too, which adds another fitment issue.

I liked the 4" belt by itself, but I never used the full harness after a couple of trial runs.

Thanks for the pics Doc, good looking rig.

I have LOW BACK seats, and I was wondering if anyone had used 4 point belts with low back seats, and if so, how...
Probably a silly idea with low backs, but I'm doing cage work, and if I'm going to need taller seats, I should make allowances for them now...

Timgr, that's what I'm thinking also.
Hard to make a post that gives me free movement into the back AND provides mounting for the shoulder straps at the same time.
Just something I was rolling around in my head while waiting for axle parts to get here!

FYI Teamrush.... I have quick diconnects on my harness and the cross bar so I can take it off when not 4 wheelin. I only use the 4 point harness when I am offroading.
