Well, maybe. But my lower mounts are at 90 deg to the uppers and my springs are flat, so I won't get a lot of front-to-back movement in the axle. But only time will tell. I'm probably not keeping those shocks anyway so if they get screwed up I'll modify the towers and go with the Rancho 9000's that I'd prefer anyway.

Boy, you and me both Jeff. I have to figure out a way to mount my winch before I put the grill back on. My PS box ended up quite a bit higher on the frame than before so my old mount isn't going to work. Thought I was done fabricating until I realized this. I'm going to try to incorporate some bracing for the frame horns with the winch mount, but as I stare at it no great ideas are springing into my head.

IIRC I had to raise my winch plate a little to make it fit even. Do you want a pic?

    Hey John,
The build is looking good. I had to raise mine as well. Let me know if you'd like a few pics.

Looks like a factory warn winch mount would work.

Terrible pic but is sits about 1 1/2 inch off the tops of the frame rail.

    bkd: it's a Warn M8000

Jeff & Ryan: pics would be nice. Whenever you have the time.

73cj5: The mount looks interesting, but I'm not partial to using bolts to the top of the frame for the brackets. It's a strength issue. At least that's the way I assume those brackets mount.

when I had that style winch I welded some 1/4" angle along the frame (on the sides.....then bolted the winch plate to that......think it stuck up about 1-1/2: inches above the frame but on top of the bumper. I bolted the mount plate to the bumper as well

So, Jim, did you weld the angle to the outside of the frame? I guess that would be the only way. I like it. I was thinking about welding a plate on the outside of the frame already to give it more strength. I added about 8 1/2" to the frame horns and I'm a little worried about the stress around the steering box and my butt-welds on both sides. The frame is boxed with 3/16" at the front, but I'd feel better with a plate on the outside too. Probably use a big piece of angle and scribe it to the profile of the frame there. I'll definitely stare at it tomorrow while I procrastinate on the wiring.

I have that winch mount on my 73 and there is only 3/4 inch above the stock frame. It bolts through the side of the frame with the brackets. How much space do you need?

Mocked up a gas tank for a test fit and man am I glad I did. The tape measure said it would fit, but in reality there was no way I could get it in without undoing the rear springs so I could pivot the pinion out of the way. Do you think it'll hold gas?

Yesterday was the last of the warmish weather we can expect for a few months so I decided to get a coat of paint on the cage. I spent about 5 min. prepping it. Ha Ha !
