Alright, finally the Jeep now has an OX Locker. Pinion had a pretty good chip so they replaced the R&P too. How do you all feel about breaking in a new gear set? I want to tow the Jeep about 75 miles behind the f150 the weekend after next. What should I be doing in the next 2 weeks to prepare for a 65 MPH 1+ hour tow? I plan to remove the rear drive line.

Drive it a couple short trips to give the gears a couple heat cycles. Dont put them under any heavy loads (spinning tires, pulling trailers, drag racing) After that run them 500ish miles and change fluid...at least thats what works for the gears we set up at work..

    :iagree:

several heat and cool cycles. Drive 15-20 minutes then let cool thoroughly then repeat. Believe me, you want to follow this.

After about 500 miles dump the gear oil and put in fresh to get rid of the contaminants and wear particles that happen from gear break in. NO heavy loads until worn in thoroughly. Drive easy until broken in. Use a quality gear oil. I don't recommend synthetics for break in.

Thanks, I have been going out every evening for a quick run up the main street. Putting 10 or so miles on it and let it sit overnight. I really enjoy these evening drives. After tonight it will be 60 miles or six trips.
