Dana 30 upgrade?

I'm thinking about finding a Dana 30 front axle to swap out the D27 that's in there now. What is going to be the best years to find the closest match size wise? Anything in specific besides gear ratio I should keep my eyes open
Turning radius sucks right now, all though I did convert it to power steering last year but of course that doesn't affect the turning radius. My 15 year old daughter has decided she wants to drive this Jeep when she gets her license and I'd like to improve the turn radius and upgrade the front brakes first.

Any thoughts or experiences on this anyone?


71 Commando

 

72/73 Commando is the easiest since they generally share the same gear ratios with the Jeepsters and they have 11" brakes. Narrow track CJ works too.
