F134 clutch fork installation...

    Swapping in a T98 in a 67 CJ5 and am having a bear of a time getting the clutch fork in. Searched the archives and others say its doable thru the top cover but no specific procedure. Someone mentioned backing the trans out a bit but that just moves the T/O back as well. Putting the little end in first doesn't seem to work as it won't go in far enough for the fork to get around the input shaft. Putting the fork end in first while prying the T/O forward doesn't seem to work either, can't get the fork behind the tooth on the collar. And yes I tied a string on...great idea.:) I humbly bow to the collective wisdom of the more experienced...

    I finally got it in. I wound up removing all the bellhousing bolts and moving the bellhousing/trans back just enough to keep the input shaft still in the pilot bushing. It provided enough clearance between the bell and the clutch for the fork to fall right in. What a pain in the posterior...
