I have been really enjoying this summer so far with my '71 Jeepster. NOT a trail rig, just trying to restore a little of Jeep history to cruise and turn heads with...

I have driven over 1600 miles with no radio! 1200 miles when I bought it and drove it from Kansas to Connecticut...

I have purchased a new cd player/head unit, and I am planning on installing 6x9's in the side body panels along side the front seats with 1" depth spacers so they will fit in the narrow cavity... (I saw a few Commandos with this online and it looked good)

Anyone else have any good suggestions for speakers? I have NO IDEA what I am doing with front speakers...
    :?

Somebody did a thread on this a while back, but ? ???

I have my 6 x 9 speakers in the panel just behind the front seats, and a pair of box speakers on the floor. This is the only real picture that I have. Works good though- they are behind me and don't mess up the appearance of the doors.

Did you use anything to fill the empty space in body where the speakers are? I was worried about rattling or a bad vibration (and better sound?). Are your subs in boxes on the floor behind the back seat? Amplifier?

Still looking for dash area or kick panel speaker options...

My amp and deck are in the console
And the speakers are in the window box's.
    Works good.

Also capped the boxes which helped it sound better.

Yeah I did same. No amp though. PO cut dash. I need to fashion some sort of plate to cover the big a$$ hole he left though.

Wow. Thanks. Too bad about the butchered hole from PO... I just installed the head unit and I am trying to figure out the wiring under the dash. It is half original and half PO botchery.

My 6x9s are slightly too big (deep) for the panels so I am awaiting 1" spacers I found on eBay for $10. Then I am going to mount 3 1/2" speakers under dash facing down...

I would HIGHLY recommend marine grade speakers if you spend any time at all with the top off. Really like Trickpatrick's diamond plate on top of the window caps!:)

Got me wondering why the marine grade speakers?

is it a sound or water/crap proof issue?

Holy smokes. Nice job. I like the CJ gauges, I wish I was a better at metal/fab work...

Curious: What type of accelerator pedal is that?

Trickpatrick has the correct pedal. MIne is missing- wish I could find a replacement. Once ordered a "commando" pedal, it turned out to be one off a gladiator or something

Why does my '71 pedal look so much different? I can barely get my boot on the brake without holding down the gas as well...

we're getting slightly off topic, but hey it happens.

are there differences between 71- and 72+?

I have an extra set of petals from a 72 and a 73 (both auto trans)

My speakers are on the wall behid the seats like most peoples.

I didnt use Marine grade, but a good poly speaker. Maraine grade is nice, but I can not find a Good quality Marine speaker for a Decent price. A nice Poly coned Speaker will take the elements decently and last a good while. I have run Infinity Speakers in 3 Jeeps so far non marine grade and have yet to have one fail.

I have been thinking of filling the area with something, there is definatly a loss of sound and slight rattle with the speakers in the panels. But I havent addressed that issue yet. I was actually thinking about filling the area with an insulating foam, but you have to worry about how much it expands when it dries.

As for the dash, I will get a pic of what I am doing If I can. The PO of mine cut the radio insert crooked. I cant stand it. So I have cut an alum overlay that will go from the dash pad down over the org speaker grills. I plan on installing my Stewart Warner Temp/Oil Pressure/Volt Gauge there when everthing is done.

BTW Trick, What steering column is that? Not a Flamming river, looks like it fit nicely.

    78' Camaro column.

I was able to use the dash bracket around it and the bracket on the fire wall I welded 2 bolts on the column the fit in the firewall bracket.
I also used the floor ring but made a new gasket out of a mud flap.
