What year did the CJ change to the o-ring power sterring pump?

    What year did the CJ change to the o-ring power sterring pump? I think I have all my stuff to put power sterring on I just need to go buy a pump this weekend.

    You can look at the listings at RockAuto.com - they show that the '81 CJ uses a o-ring high pressure hose.

    The Saginaw pumps are all the same, AFAIK. You can turn a flare fitting pump into an o-ring pump by screwing a fitting into the back.

    I went to a boneyard and took a flare fitting/valve assy out of a flare pump.

    Well that explains why the pump I picked up at the bone yard won't work!:oops:
























































    Just kidding there Jim. :)

    Those fittings are best changed out while the pump is sitting on a bench. I took the one out of my Waggy and had one heck of a time getting it back in there with the access I had not to mention the spring pushing against the fitting.
